Vitalant, the former Central Blood Bank, recently rebranded as Vitalant, is a nonprofit transfusion organization that has operated in Pittsburgh since 1951. It is an integral partner in the delivery of blood products to 45 hospitals in the western Pennsylvania region, including AHN and UPMC, providing comprehensive transfusion medicine services for patients in need.  

As the fundraising arm of Vitalant, Vitalant Foundation raises awareness and secures the charitable funding necessary to maintain a safe and ample blood supply for the communities we serve. Support from Vitalant Foundation covers the entire blood donation and transfusion ecosystem, including donor centers, testing, clinical services, and research.
